Once you have decided on the property you wish to purchase let us help you with the formalities: a preliminary contract (“compromis de vente”) with let out clauses (“clauses suspensives”) and a seven day cooling off period has to be negotiated and signed. Between 5% and 10% of the price of the property has to be deposited with the notary of your choice. Perhaps you will want our help investigating local planning, explaining and negotiating fees and possibly obtaining a survey (see “Handholding” for these and other related services). We can accompany you to the notary and act as translators for the final signature of the title deeds (“acte de vente”), which usually takes place a couple of months after the signature of the preliminary contract. Prior to this we can establish with you the best possible ownership structure adapted to your personal family / fiscal profile: it may be best for you to buy through a local company (SCI), in your name only, jointly or perhaps in the name of your children.
